A Show for Shelter

What is, was, “A Show for Shelter”? It was an event to benefit the Preston Bradley Center, and it was held last Saturday the 16th of April. The coordinator, Rashida Black, put this event together for a very worthy cause. The affair was kicked off by DJ Kimya. DJ Kimya played some of the most outstanding music I had never heard, just goes to show that what you don’t know can make a whole “nuther” world :). Guest artists were Shannon Steele, April HL, Stephen Leonard, Duke and Goose and Brandee Younger. Whoops! I almost left out interpretive dancer LaChanda Davis. The event was Emceed by producer, actress, dancer Iman Crutcher. This was a great effort for a worthy cause, a short photo essay follows.

King Legacy Awards Gala

The Martin Luther King Jr Boys and Girls Clubs of Chicago held their awards gala at the Hyatt , I was privileged to be on hand for the event. This organization is doing a lot of very good work right in the heart of the community on the near west side. They want and need our support to continue as a viable alternative to what the streets have to offer. This club is a safe haven for children in the community, offering plenty of positive activities and much needed guidance. The honorees were, Dr. Alvenia Rhea Albright, Ray Anderson, Congressman Danny K. Davis, and Larry Huggins. Serving as emcee was radio and tv personality Bionce’ Foxx. Congratulations to Director Don Reed, Administrative Assistant Andrea Hooper and the rest of the club staff for a great event.
